Gardending Superfund Sites is an art project which fosters discourse around the issues of nature preservation, industry, and activism. By providing information and facilitating activities with students and community groups we are making a call to action to high tech industries to take responsibility for their actions. This is a global issue that needs to be addressed locally!

Amy is a new media artist and educator. Her work is pervaded with images of growth-reminding us that both nature and our own creative natures are precious commodities that must be nurtured and sustained whether it is on the web or in our own backyards. Amy founded Futurefarmers in 1995, as a means to bring together multidisciplinary artists to create new work. She is currently teaching Media Theory and Practice courses at Stanford University and the San Francisco Art Institute.

His research interests include: Evolution, ecology, biogeography and systematics of the Pierid butterflies; biogeography of the Andean-Patagonian region; plant-insect interactions; phenology and developmental plasticity / polyphenism +Evolution of cold climate biota.

The Design Department at UC Davis is supporting the Seed Sculpture + Biodegradable Parachute workshops and have incorporated them into their winter curriculum. The design department at UC Davis is especially interesting in terms of their focus. All areas of study incorporate the history and theory of design as well as an exploration of social and environmental issues related to design.

Tonya is a graduating senior at the University of California Davis, getting a B.S. in Design with an emphasis in Visual Communications and Textiles. She is a dedicated political activist and believes that designers must engage in multi-disciplinary efforts to raise social consciousness.

Matthew is currently working towards his MFA at CCA.


Alanna MacGowan
Alanna is currently working towards her BS in Design from UC Davis, where she focuses her interests in visual communications and textile design. Merging art and design to address social and environmental concerns has led to an experimental use of silkscreening on recycled industrial materials and has become a primary objective for future work.
