Floods in the Past and FutureUntil about 5,500 years ago, what is now the Sahara desert was covered with lakes, surrounded by lush vegetation. Around the same time, large
lakes covered what is now relatively dry land in central Asia. Within centuries, the climate in those regions changed drastically. I will
talk about the processes that are responsible for such climate changes and about what they imply for future climates. For example, among the changes that are expected is an in-creased likelihood of intense
rainfall: what currently is a hundred-year flood may become a twenty-year flood.

Students create condensed, 3 minute version of Tapio's lecture to present to students/gallery visitors who pass through.

Rubbings/Poster:
Visiting classes are asked to listen to 3 minute Tapio lecture and then choose a word or phrase that they learned or excited them. Then they made a poster with text made from rubbings of letters from metal text and signage around campus. |
