Hotspot is a nomadic wireless installation consisting of two teepee-like structures each enclosing a networked video kiosque and kneeling pad. Each was set up in public, making use of the local WiFi network. Each monitor shows a live video feed captured from the other hotspot. When someone kneels on the pad, a spotlight fades on in the other hotspot. The piece addresses the effect WiFi has on our sense of mobility and stability, and invokes the deification of this increasingly ubiquitous and invisible network. This was a collaboration with Kristin Lucas. |
